Tiliter Co-Founder and Co-CEO Christopher Sampson spoke with ABC News about Tiliter’s experience building computer vision technology in Australia and taking it to international markets.
Tiliter was founded in Sydney and developed its early computer vision technology for retailers, using AI to recognise products and automate visual tasks. However, some of the company’s early commercial momentum came from overseas.
Chris explained that proving the technology internationally helped create credibility back in Australia.
“The first serious Australian customer can be worth more than any grant because they provide the real-world validation and credibility a company needs to compete.”
Today, Tiliter’s computer vision technology is used in retail environments in Australia and internationally, and the company has expanded its technology into a broader Vision AI platform designed to automate visual verification tasks across operations.

For Tiliter, the opportunity is not simply about where AI companies are founded, but whether Australian businesses are prepared to deploy emerging technology in real operational environments.
